A skilled professional with more than a decade of excellence in startup support and entrepreneurship education, Mr. Davis has earned distinction as the executive director of The Hill Institute for Innovation and Entrepreneurship at Furman University – a prestigious liberal arts and sciences university dating back to 1826. Since joining Furman in 2019 to support the launch and growth of The Hill Institute, now a nationally awarded institute, he has been responsible for creating numerous initiatives generating substantial positive impacts on both students and community members alike. He has secured dozens of new collaborative partnerships to advance a thriving entrepreneurial ecosystem, launched a startup program nominated nationally for "Excellence in New Venture Creation" (GVL Starts), and helped lead South Carolina's first ever state-wide student pitch competition (SC Innovates).
Through his efforts, Mr. Davis has successfully connected the Furman University campus community with the rapidly growing Greenville, South Carolina, business community to enhance the student experience, foster community engagement, and increase economic vibrancy.
Mr. Davis is especially proud of how his work at Furman University is equipping the next generation of entrepreneurially minded leaders by connecting entrepreneurial resources and social capital for everyone, including traditionally underrepresented groups. He has already witnessed numerous success stories resulting from his efforts, including first-generation college students at Furman and Black female founders in the community who are progressing quickly on a journey towards creating generational wealth.
Prior to joining The Hill Institute, Mr. Davis served as a founding member of a multi-billion-dollar academic health center's innovation office (Prisma Health). In this role, he had direct leadership in the commercialization strategies of over 350 unique life science innovation opportunities, oversaw incubator programs, and launched a tech maturation fund to support new healthcare advancements, resulting in over $35 million of regional economic impact.
Mr. Davis has also worked as an advertising account manager at EP+Co and participated in several startups himself, ranging from real estate and health tech to custom furniture.
He has served on numerous boards and committees, including the South Carolina Business Incubator Association, Global Entrepreneurship Week, South Carolina Biotechnology Industry Organization (SCBIO), InnoVision Awards Organization, Humimic Medical, Addo Global, Exercise is Medicine Greenville, and Prisma's Healthcare Innovation & Transformation Committee.
To prepare for his career, Mr. Davis earned a Bachelor of Science in business management and entrepreneurship from Clemson University in 2009. Well-qualified in his field, he is a licensed real estate professional, a certified startup facilitator coach, and graduate of the prestigious Palmetto Venture Fellowship.
Within the coming years, Mr. Davis has his eyes on national prestige for The Hill Institute at Furman University. He intends to build the institute into a fully integrated entrepreneurship center that fuels the launch, growth, funding, and exit of new ventures while also providing novel educational pathways to develop entrepreneurially-minded leaders equipped to transform the world.
