Mr. Smith is particularly proud of his willingness and ability to think outside the box; his determination to adapt and embrace new challenges has propelled him to the top of his field.
LLANO, TX, November 22, 2023 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Hatch C. Smith, Jr., has been inducted into Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Mr. Smith, chief administrative officer and administrator for MidCoast Medical Center-Central, possesses nearly a decade of experience in finance and management. Since assuming his role in 2020, he has overseen the health care system in its expansion into surrounding towns while maintaining its status in the region. This growth has not only resulted in improved health care for residents of the Llano area, but also provided employment opportunities; when Mr. Smith stepped into the position, the hospital employed 40 people, and it has since grown to more than 100. A sixth-generation rancher, Mr. Smith is also the owner of RedSmith Genetics, a registered seed stock operation that specializes in breeding Brahman and Tarentaise cattle, and the manager of D.P. Smith & Sons, a cow and calf operation that processes and runs yearlings.
Mr. Smith's performance in the field was born of his academic journey. His unrelenting passion for doing something out of the ordinary led him to pursue a degree from the prestigious Cornell University, from which he earned a Bachelor of Science in 2004. He later obtained a Master of Business Administration from Southern Methodist University in 2014.
While he originally planned to enter a medical field, Mr. Smith decided instead to move to Argentina to learn the Spanish language. Upon his return to the U.S., he pursued a career on Wall Street, working in investment banking positions in New York City, Boston and Dallas. He also exhibited entrepreneurial skills by purchasing some businesses in San Antonio, rolling them up, and taking an interest in his hometown of Llano, Texas. In doing so, he learned that the local Llano hospital was on the verge of shutting down. In response, Mr. Smith gathered a team to help negotiate and save the hospital and reestablished a local hospital foundation that has been instrumental in raising nearly $500,000 in local donations to keep the hospital running.
Among his career accomplishments, Mr. Smith is particularly proud of his willingness and ability to think outside the box; his determination to adapt and embrace new challenges has propelled him to the top of his field. This leadership has resulted in him being the youngest inductee to a local hall of fame and being named Dealmaker of the Year in the 2014 Dallas Mergers & Acquisitions Awards.
A volunteer within his local community, Mr. Smith sits on the boards of the Lower Colorado River Authority and the Workforce Solutions Rural Capital Area. Additionally, he is a director and youth committee chair of the American Brahman Breeders Association. As a commitment to his field, he is active with the Texas Hospital Association, the Young Presidents' Organization and the American Brahman Breeders Association. He was recently named a Texas Hospital Association Fellow.
