After earning a Bachelor of Science in physics from the University of Calcutta's Scottish Church College in 2008, Dr. Das expanded upon his knowledge by earning a Bachelor of Technology and Master of Technology in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from the University of Calcutta's Institute of Radiophysics and Electronics in 2011 and 2013, respectively. In 2013, he emigrated from India to Canada and began his pursuit of a PhD in Electromagnetics and Microwave Engineering at the University of Alberta. While obtaining his degree, Dr. Das worked at the University as a laboratory manager, instructor, and teaching assistant.
Upon graduating from the University of Alberta with his PhD in 2019, Dr. Das began working as a research assistant for his doctoral alma mater. Following that, he joined San Diego State University as a postdoctoral researcher in 2020, where he gained invaluable expertise in the field while working on the Artemis project in collaboration with NASA Glenn Research Center, which aims to construct antennas for small satellites that will orbit the moon and enable communication between the Earth and lunar stations. In this capacity, Dr. Das is working on several other projects, and maintains responsibility for the upkeep of the lab. Similarly, he trains students when needed and writes proposals to secure funding and staffing.
Driven to remain abreast of changes in the field, Dr. Das aligns himself with the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). Due to his vast breadth of knowledge, he has authored several articles in professional journals and served as a reviewer for several IEEE and Wiley journals. In light of his professional achievements, he received the GATE Scholarship from the Ministry of Human Resource Development in India in 2011. Throughout his career, Dr. Das also earned the Alberta Innovates Scholarship in Canada, a Doctoral Research Grant from the IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society (AP-S), and third place in IEEE AP-S/MTT-S Northern Canada Section's Student Seminar Series.
While his career has been filled with highlights, Dr. Das takes the most pride in obtaining his PhD and his current involvement in the Artemis project with NASA. The cornerstone of his success lies in the guidance of the amazing professors who mentored him over the years, his unwavering work ethic, and the steadfast support of his family in India. Looking ahead, Dr. Das aims to maintain his involvement in the Artemis project for another year. Ultimately, he will either join the industry or continue in academia, where he can inspire future generations of students.
