Leveraging more than two decades of excellence in obstetrics and gynecology, Dr. West has earned distinction as a physician in the Tennessee Valley and Northern Alabama. Since 2001, she has focused her efforts on providing excellent patient care, stemming from her genuine desire to help others as a physician. Additionally, she is a valued member of the National Medical Association and the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society.
Prior to her current role, Dr. West began her career by fulfilling her commitment to the National Health Service Corps. She accepted a position at a Federally Qualified Health Center in Huntsville, Alabama where she was able to continue the core mission of her medical school, which was to serve the underserved population, which remains unwavering to this day. This commitment to community service has remained a driving force throughout her career. In 2004, Dr. West satisfactorily fulfilled her obligation and initiated a new professional phase by establishing her independent OBGYN practice, Essential Health, PC. While in this role, she also was the president, owner and operating as sole practitioner of Essential Health, PC until 2013, at which time she joined Premier OBGYN LLC as a physician, where she honed her expertise. She also contributed her knowledge and skills as a consultant physician for the Alabama Agricultural and Mechanical University's Student Health Center from 2004 to 2012, making a significant impact in the university community. She subsequently worked as a physician for South Huntsville OBGYN in 2014, the first and only employed Obstetrics and Gynecology practice at Crestwood Medical Center she is credited with creating and for Huntsville Hospital in 2018, where she assumed the role of Medical Director of their OB Emergency Department and Inpatient Hospitalist program and established their first full service OBGYN outpatient clinic.
To prepare for her medical career, Dr. West earned a Bachelor of Science with distinction, graduating Magna Cum Laude from Howard University and Doctor of Medicine, with distinction, graduating Summa Cum Laude from Meharry Medical College in 1997. Following these achievements, she completed a residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology from the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. She was also admitted as a Fellow to the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and has an anticipated graduation date set for April of 2025 for her Fellowship into the Academy of Integrative Health and Medicine.
Within the coming months, Dr. West intends to launch her fourth OBGYN practice. And at the commencement of her Integrative Medicine education, Dr. West will combine the two practices, allowing her to offer a more comprehensive and holistic approach to healthcare, combining the strengths of traditional Western medicine with the principles and practices of Integrative Medicine to better serve her patients. Having worked in almost every possible scenario over the course of her professional journey, she has gained invaluable experience in diverse career settings, applying these skills and delivering high-quality healthcare and service to helping others in her community.
