Leveraging more than four decades of excellence in architecture for commercial, residential, mixed-use design and multi-family housing, Mr. Burke has earned distinction as a board member of the Florida Board of Architecture and Interior Design. Since 2022, he has focused his efforts on reviewing cases brought before the board with diligence and care, serving as one of the key decision-makers responsible for determining whether or not a given case involves a violation of the law. He emphasizes personal responsibility as a key factor of his success in the industry and as such helps maintain the integrity of the board's processes, ensuring its decisions are fair and just. Additionally, he has been the president of his own firm, Gregory John Burke | ARCHITECT, PA since 1998.
Likewise dedicated to civil advocacy, Mr. Burke lends his expertise to the Committee for Affordable Housing of St. Johns County and is a valued asset to the St. Johns County Chamber of Commerce. He collaborates with the St. Johns County Chamber of Commerce as well. Mr. Burke also has experience as an expert witness for cases involving standard of care, building information modeling, errors and omissions, and construction defects.
Before his present role, Mr. Burke began his career as an intern with NBBJ in 1980 and became a project architect for Gensler in 1985. He subsequently served as the technical director for the Hillier Group in 1989 until becoming a design principal for Donadio and Associates in 1995. Following this period, he was a project manager for the URS Corporation, An AECOM Company, in 2010, taking a role as the vice president of the Florida Association of the American Institute of Architects in 2015 for two years. He also served as the director of AIA Florida from 2008 until 2020.
Among his professional accomplishments, Mr. Burke was honored with a Presidential Citation for the "Citizen Architect Program" of AIA Florida in 2014 and for the "Advocacy and Legislative Affairs" in 2015. He also received the Tony Pullara Honor Award from AIA Florida in 2017 and was admitted as a Fellow to the American Institute of Architects in 2018.
Prior to embarking on his professional journey, Mr. Burke earned a Bachelor of Science in architecture and urban design from The Ohio State University in 1981. Eminently qualified in his field, he holds a certificate from the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards and is licensed in seven states. He is also a valued member of the Northeast Florida Builders Association and the American Institute of Architects.
