Through Commonwealth Management and Consulting, Mrs. Thornhill and her team provide business strategy expertise, marketing, graphic design, and social media management services to clients. The company also assists businesses in team building, organizational development, communication strategies, project management, and more. More recently, Mrs. Thornhill also established Mrs. Marcy's Homemades in 2020 during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, a company that manufactures applesauce and is licensed by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Her organization has won several awards during its short time in business.
In the nonprofit sector, Mrs. Thornhill serves as the chief executive officer of KaKY Kollege and Kareer 4 Youth, which is aimed at helping young people navigate their life, education and careers. As part of its mission, the organization focuses on youth populations in rural, urban, and low-income communities, those in failing school districts, children of deceased or incarcerated parents, teenage parents, and those residing in group homes or alternative living environments.
Mrs. Thornhill formerly taught as an adjunct professor at Virginia Commonwealth University from 2014 to 2022. The majority of her career has been dedicated to project management in various roles for such organizations as the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond, Capital One, Virginia Community College System. She currently serves as a Customer Account Manager for the Virginia Information Technology Agency where she provides strategic direction and support in the area of technology for all of the colleges and universities in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Aside from her full-time commitments, Mrs. Thornhill has published several works: He vs She: Women and the Gender Pay Gap, Teen Entrepreneurship Workbook, Is My Face in Cyberspace, The College Prep Handbook and her most recent contribution, "An Apple a Day: Applesauce Cookbook and Journal."
Civically invested, Mrs. Thornhill is a member of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority Incorporated Iota Sigma Alumnae Chapter, Iota Phi Lambda Sorority Inc Zeta Rho Chapter where she is also one of charter members of the Petersburg Va chapter. Additionally, she is also a founding member of the Richmond Metropolitan chapter of the National Coalition of 100 Black Women and a member of the Metropolitan Business League. She has also volunteered with the Department of Juvenile Justice where she works directly with incarcerated youth and has served as the vice-president of the Golden Rose Foundation. Moreover, Mrs. Thornhill has remained a member of the Saint Paul's Baptist Church in Richmond, Virginia, for over 20 years.
Mrs. Thornhill graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University in 1994 with a Bachelor of Arts in business administration and a concentration in finance. She also received a master's certificate in project management from The George Washington University in 2011, a Master of Business Administration in human resource management from Strayer University in 2011, and a Master of Education in educational leadership and administration from Strayer University in 2015. Additionally, Mrs. Thornhill received certification in project management from the Commonwealth of Virginia through the Virginia Information Technology Agency in 2013.
In light of her success, Mrs. Thornhill was recognized as an Emerging Entrepreneur of the Year by the Metropolitan Business League in 2023. She was previously honored with a Made in Virginia Award for her new applesauce product for Mrs. Marcy's Homemades in 2021 and a Social Impact Award for her social media safety advocacy work done within her organization KaKY in 2019. Her work in social media is reflected as she serves as the Social Media Safety Expert for NBC12 in Richmond, Virginia. Other honors included being named a Nonprofit Partner of the Year by the Metropolitan Business League in 2017, receiving a Distinguished Community Service Award from the Metropolitan Business League in 2015, and winning the Youth for Outreach Award from the Praise 104.7.
