A seasoned educator with years of professional experience, Mr. Morgan presently excels as the visiting professor of painting in the international Ph.D. program at the Shanghai Academy of Fine Arts. Alongside his work as a professor, he spends quite a bit of time in his studio and serves as a mentor for others. He has exhibited his work in the United States, United Kingdom, and China and in private collections with Lucent Technologies, Beringer Wineries, and Saks Fifth Avenue. Prior to obtaining his current job at Shanghai Academy of Fine Arts, he worked for more than 30 years as an associate professor of painting at the San Francisco Art Institute, which closed down in 2022 due to various factors, including the high cost of living in San Francisco and the COVID-19 pandemic. Similarly, Mr. Morgan also taught at JFK University, the China Academy of Art, and CCA in California and Beijing.
Before embarking on his professional journey, Mr. Morgan earned a certificate of fine art from the University of Oxford's Ruskin School of Drawing and Fine Art in 1977. Subsequently, he expanded upon his professional knowledge, earning an advanced diploma in fine arts and painting from the Royal Academy of Arts, and a Master of Fine Arts in painting from the San Francisco Art Institute. In recognition of his professional accomplishments, he received several awards over the course of 20 years, including the Leverhulme Scholarship Award, the Sir James Walker Award, the Vanddeleur Scholarship Award, a Stowell's Trophy Medal Award, a Connoisseur Magazine Painting Prize, and the SFAI Faculty Development Grant. While his career has been filled with highlights, Mr. Morgan takes the most pride in receiving the Harkness Fellowship.
In conjunction with his work, Mr. Morgan contributed to the Lucid Art Foundation as a vision board member. Though hard work and dedication have brought him far in his career, he credits his overall success to his desire to make an impact on the lives of others. He also attributes his achievements to his English teacher, Jimmy Pylle, an art teacher named Gerry Hicks, and his lifelong companion and partner of 35 years, Holly Blake. Looking forward, Mr. Morgan intends to help people achieve their goals and inspire them to develop a sense of self-awareness.
