Ms. Sowa-Wagner is a clinical data manager celebrating more than 30 years of specializing in clinical research for multiple therapeutic areas, 20 of those years with a focus on oncology and rare diseases. She entered the field as a data entry operator for the first HIV study and soon after discovered the Society for Clinical Data Management, where she discovered a passion for the work that led her to pursue a medical assistant certificate and coursework in computer and information sciences through Bucks County Community College. Ms. Sowa-Wagner holds a science degree in healthcare management from Ashworth College and is currently working toward completion of an advanced degree in healthcare.
In 2001, Ms. Sowa-Wagner joined Barr Research as manager of data management, departing in 2003 to join AstraZeneca as a senior data operations specialist, from which she departed in 2007 to become a data management project leader for ICON PLC. She continued to build a reputation for thoroughness and a commitment to quality as a clinical data manager II for Covance, where she served from 2009 until 2014, before accepting a senior clinical data manager role with ACI Clinical in 2014. In 2015, Ms. Sowa-Wagner became a senior clinical data associate for Precision Oncology, departing in 2017 as manager of clinical data management. After briefly working with IQVIA as a senior data technical lead through 2020, she began her career with Caidya as a senior manager of clinical data management. Since 2021, she has been the company's director of clinical data management, implementing company standard operating procedures, process improvements, and best practices in addition to overseeing and training employees involved in clinical studies.
Among many other contributions, Ms. Sowa-Wagner was instrumental in the submission of data for AstraZeneca's cholesterol management drug Crestor, for which she was presented with a Champion Thank You Award. She has worked with many difference pharma and biotech companies and contributed to other pharmaceutical drugs over the years relating to lung cancer, solid tumors, melanoma, schizophrenia, major depressive disorder, Alzheimer's, gout, and many others.
Ms. Sowa-Wagner has been a delegate to the Society for Clinical Data Management since 2018 and credits her success and compassion for patients and their families in finding treatments for life-altering diseases. She remains inspired to help others by her father's untimely passing due to lung cancer. Currently, she is involved in research relating to oncology and rare diseases while venturing into gene-therapy, and she hopes to continue working on projects bringing improvement to patients and their families in the future. She emphasizes to others interested in medical and clinical research careers that, with conviction and perseverance, anything can be achieved. In her personal time, Ms. Sowa-Wagner enjoys crafting and fine arts, creating blankets to donate to seniors and patients receiving cancer treatments, and she is an avid baker.
