He began his professional journey as a student at Miami Dade College, which awarded him an Associate of Arts in accounting in 2011. In 2014, Mr. Fonseca completed a Bachelor of Science in accounting at the Florida International University College of Business. As a part of his commitment to constant growth, Mr. Fonseca participated in the Florida Government Finance Officers Association Leadership Class VI in 2023, where he was groomed to refine his leadership skills in order to further his impact on his organization, the FGFOA, and the financial leadership of Florida. Subsequently, in an impressive feat of intellectual prowess, Mr. Fonseca passed all five exams in one sitting on his first attempt to secure the CGFO designation as a Certified Government Finance Officer—the largest state certification program in the nation and considered the highest local government finance certification in the State of Florida. This accomplishment stands as a testament to Mr. Fonseca's deep and comprehensive understanding of government finance and accounting.
Before launching his career in finance and accounting, Mr. Fonseca found success with McDonald's, learning all aspects of the business and developing his leadership skills over the course of ten years. He began at the store level as a crew member while still a high school student in 2006 and was an assistant store manager by 2009. From 2013 until 2016, Mr. Fonseca was an area supervisor and manager of human resources, training, and development for a seven (7) restaurant franchisee organization, with performance that earned him two corporate Leadership Awards. He joined the City of Homestead in 2016 as an accountant I, rising to accountant II in 2018 and senior accountant in 2020. The following year, Mr. Fonseca was named accounting manager for the city, a position he held until 2023, when he stepped into his current role as assistant director of finance and controller, where he helps oversee and manage the city's financial planning, record-keeping, and staff.
Mr. Fonseca credits his success to the work ethic instilled in him by his family and to his consistency and reliability as a team member. He looks forward to continuing to grow as a professional, with the eventual goals of becoming a certified public accountant and being named finance director for the City of Homestead. He plans to take on more leadership responsibilities in the groups. Outside of his professional life, Mr. Fonseca is a staunch supporter of charities benefiting children, veterans, and environmental causes.
