He works to guarantee these systems are functioning properly and creates budget, project and annual reports for the department, purchasing equipment for the offices and divisions when needed. Notably, Mr. Shaw spearheaded the development of Oasis, a cutting-edge case management system that converted mainframe system to a web-based application, resulting in a marked increase in efficiency for the organization. Thanks to his dedication and hard work, the agency has seen remarkable growth and has emerged as one of the leading organizations that use Citrix (Virtual Desktop) in the southern region, with successful engagements across multiple state agencies.
Before his present role, Mr. Shaw was a computer operator for the Bank of Dadeville for a year and became a senior program analyst for the Alabama Department of Human Resources in 1997. Following this time, he was a program developer and contractor for the Alabama Medicaid Agency in 2002, earning a promotion to a software quality assurance and control manager as well as an operations unit and configurations unit manager in 2005.
Among his professional accomplishments, Mr. Shaw was honored with an award from the Daughters of the American Revolution and with a High Performance Award from SES, which contracted with the Alabama Medicaid Agency. He also received Utilization Awards from the SCB, which contracted with the Alabama Department of Human Resources four years consecutively. He is deeply committed to ensuring that he goes above and beyond to create the best possible experience for himself and those around him and is dedicated to learning and incorporating new ideas, which has been key to his success throughout his career.
To prepare for his career journey, Mr. Shaw earned a Bachelor of Science in business administration and computer science from the University of West Alabama in 1992. He is a lifetime member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity. Well-qualified in his field, he holds certifications in software quality management, software development and project management. Within the coming year, Mr. Shaw intends to continue to mentor and train himself and his staff, staying with the Alabama Bureau of Pardons and Paroles to ensure the agency grows into a better organization than when he joined.
