TALLAHASSEE, FL, December 06, 2023 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Hugo A. Navarro, MD, has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Dr. Navarro is the medical director of Pediatrix Medical Group and board certified in neonatal and perinatal medicine. On his path to entering the medical field, he attended the University of Panama, where he earned a Doctor of Medicine and graduated with 100 students out of the 800 applicants that initially applied. Following graduation, he put in the work to pursue further education overseas and was awarded a scholarship to attend and complete a pediatric residency at the Autonomous University of Madrid in 1992. Thereafter, he attended the University of Miami to complete a pediatric residency and the neonatal-perinatal medicine fellowship program in 1997.
From 2005 to 2012, Dr. Navarro served as the medical director at Duke University, where he worked tirelessly to develop a neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). He single-handedly developed a level two unit for the university by converting a nursery into a fully functional NICU, an accomplishment he takes immense satisfaction in. Following his time at Duke, he went on to join KIDZ Medical Services to work as a neonatologist, a position he held for nearly a decade.
Since 2023, Dr. Navarro has continued to practice as a neonatologist independently, and, as of recent, he joined Pediatrix Medical Group, where he occupies the role of medical director. Along with his professional responsibilities, Dr. Navarro volunteers his time and expertise during times of crisis and has worked to share his knowledge and expertise within his home country of Panama, where he has helped develop new technologies and implemented them to save the lives of infants. For his contributions, Dr. Navarro has been honored as a nominee and recipient of the DAISY Award, among other recognitions. He is a member and fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics, and the Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics, and is board certified in neonatal-perinatal medicine by the American Board of Pediatrics.
For all he has pursued and achieved, Dr. Navarro credits his parents, who were professors at the University of Panama, for his success. Growing up, he witnessed his parents' dedication and hard work toward their careers and was thus greatly influenced to strive for excellence in his own endeavors. Though his vocational focus is on actively working to elevate the level of care provided in the NICU, he is also making an effort to continue to expand his knowledge simultaneously—and is doing so by pursuing further education to become a chief medical officer through the Goizueta Business School at Emory University.
