Mr. McGurn was born in Elmhurst, IL. Prior to embarking on his professional journey, he pursued an education at Arizona State University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science with distinction in Political Science and Government in 1975 and was inducted into Phi Sigma Alpha, the National Political Science Honor Society. He continued his academic efforts at the Northern Illinois - College of Law, (formerly Lewis University - College of Law), where he was inducted into Delta Theta Phi. He earned a Juris Doctor and was admitted to practice law by the Illinois Supreme Court in 1978, U.S. District Court, Northern District of Illinois in 1978, and U.S. Tax Court in 1989. He is a member of the DuPage County, Illinois State, and American Bar Associations. As a commitment to his field, Mr. McGurn has been active with several industry-related organizations, including the Home Builders Association of Illinois (Director, Board of Directors), the Home Builders Association of Greater Fox Valley (Director, Board of Directors), the National Association of Home Builders (member of the Legal Action Committee for Development Strategies (L.A.N.D.S.), the Northern Illinois Home Builders Association (Director, Legislative Committee Member), and the Illinois Department of Transportation Citizens Advisory Committee ( the Fox Valley Freeway[355] feasibility study).
Mr. McGurn was an initial board member of The Joseph Corporation (now known as The Neighbor Project), an Illinois not for profit corporation, the purpose of which includes credit counseling, temporary housing, and home ownership for underprivileged single family and single parent households.
Well-regarded for his contributions to the field, Mr. McGurn has been included in the Who's Who in American Law publication representing and related to his practice, and will be included in the 2023-2024 edition of Who's Who in America. He has also received multiple Associate of the Year awards from the Northern Illinois Home Builders Association.
