For more than 38 years, Ms. Henthorn has led a successful career in health care. A registered nurse since 1986, she transitioned into hospice care in 2008 as a bedside and admissions nurse. Presently the general manager/administrator at the Silverado Hospice Los Angeles, she joined the organization in 2023 with extensive expertise in all areas of the industry, from Medicare and California state requirements to budgeting, regulatory provisions, and more.
Silverado Hospice Los Angeles is an organization comprised of approximately 100 professional associates and volunteers who provide comfort, care, and dignity to individuals at the end of their lives. Leading a team of dedicated health care workers and office managers and professionals, Ms. Henthorn ensures that her registered nurses, licensed vocational nurses, social workers, spiritual counselors, and home health aides all provide the highest quality of care. She also works closely with the admissions and sales teams and frequently checks in on patient and family satisfaction.
Ms. Henthorn began her career in health care as a private duty caregiver at age 18. She subsequently became a certified nursing aide prior to becoming a registered nurse She has worked in various settings including oncology and critical care units at Community Memorial Hospital Ventura for 17 years and at UCLA Department of Neurology between 2005 and 2008 before pivoting into hospice. Hired by Livingston Memorial VNA Hospice and Palliative Care as a registered nurse hospice case manager, she remained in her position for five years before serving in the same capacity for Buena Vista Hospice Care Inc. from 2013 to 2015. Additionally, Ms. Henthorn rose to serve as the Director of Patient Care Services for Sacred Life Hospice between 2015 and 2018 and start-up company Los Robles Healthcare Hospice from 2018 to 2019. Just before being recruited by Silverado, Ms. Henthorn was the Patient Care Administrator for VITAS Healthcare Los Angeles between 2019 and 2023.
During her time spent at UCLA working community health LA county-wide, Ms. Henthorn has conducted significant research in her field. She has disseminated her findings in scholarly publications like the New England Journal of Medicine and the Journal of Stroke and Cerebrovascular Diseases. During her tenure at UCLA Health, Ms. Henthorn worked on the world's most extensive pre-hospital stroke study, enrolling hundreds of study participants and helping to develop a tool that the paramedics still use today throughout Los Angeles County to detect stroke onset. Additionally, Ms. Henthorn educated several hundred firefighters, paramedics, and ED physicians in LA County on detection of stroke symptom onset and clinical trial protocol.
In her spare time, Ms. Henthorn is active with a local book club and enjoys live music events and Zumba. She has also been involved with various health-related organizations, including walks and charitable events, to support Alzheimer's and dementia.
Ms. Henthorn graduated with an Associate Degree in Nursing from Ventura College in 1987 and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Phoenix in 2005 as one of the first graduates from the online campus. She received the honor of being included in the Omicron Delta branch of the Sigma Theta Tau international honor society for nurses. She remains aware of developments in her industry as a member of the Hospice and Palliative Nurses Association.
