Prior to his current role, Mr. Cumberbatch began his career as an assistant manager for AMC Theatres in 1998 and during this time was a campaign assistant for United Way of The Big Bend in 2005. In 2006, he became a human resources coordinator for FIS and took a role as an assistant store manager for the Target Corporation in 2009.
Mr. Cumberbatch continued his career as a human resources consultant in 2011 and became a regional human resources consultant for the McDonald's Corporation in 2013. He was promoted several times during this time, ending his tenure as a global field people manager in 2023, spearheading the talent management strategy within his field office. He had also served as the East division diversity and inclusion lead from 2013 until 2015 and was a talent manager in 2022, among other roles. Notably, he advanced career opportunities for individuals from diverse backgrounds, including initiatives focused on career development for Black employees and serving as an unconscious bias trainer, providing extensive training and coaching to incoming staff and leaders. He also collaborated with owner-operators to ensure independent franchisees implemented optimal human resource management practices.
Among his professional accomplishments, Mr. Cumberbatch was honored with a United States Talent Elevator Award from McDonald's Global People in 2014 and with a McOpCo East District Appreciation Award in 2020. He also received an Integrity Value Award and Community Value Award from the Nashville field office of the McDonald's Corporation in 2021. Added to these, he was presented with a Shining Light Award for Inclusion from McDonald's Global People in 2022.
Prior to embarking on his professional journey, Mr. Cumberbatch earned a Bachelor of Science in social science from Florida State University in 2003. Following this achievement, he attained a Master of Arts in human resources management from the Keller Graduate School of Management of DeVry University in 2008. Well-qualified in his field, he is a certified senior talent management practitioner and holds a master storyteller certificate. He also secured a Getting Talent Back to Work certificate from the Society for Human Resource Management in 2023. His affiliation with Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc. further reflects his commitment to community and leadership.
Within the coming years, Mr. Cumberbatch intends to revitalize the Associated Press' culture through the implementation of enhanced human resources practices, systems and routines. He also plans to give a TED Talk based on his personal journey while strengthening the brand of his recently established consulting business. Accounting for his success, he credits his faith in God as a Seventh-Day Adventist Christian, which fueled his fervor for personal growth, fostering kindness and demonstrating love in his interactions with others.
