Moreover, she has found success as the owner of Love Life Coffee (www.thelovelifecafe.com), a thriving black-woman-owned vegan and vegetarian coffee shop that opened in 2021 in Laurel, Maryland, and serves fresh coffee, variety of vegan toasts, salad, and wraps, cold pressed juices, and snacks. Ms. Gebrekristos began discussing opening a coffee shop with her daughter during the COVID-19 lockdown. As a vegan, she wanted to ensure that her coffee shop offered vegan and vegetarian beverage options and dishes for her customers, which were created with the help of a local chef.
Ms. Gebrekristos has also ventured into the wine and beer industry and has founded Rift Valley Imports, LLC (www. riftvalleyimports.com). Rift Valley was founded in year 2022 to import the most unique beers and wines from Ethiopia with a wide range of styles and testes, from traditional favorites to experimental blends that are sure to excite each and individuals' palate.
Leveraging her business expertise, Ms. Gebrekristos began her career with McKesson as a senior quality assurance analyst and subsequently with CACI International Inc. between 2001 and 2005. She also worked as a software quality assurance manager with TechTeam Global and Jacobs Engineering from 2005 to 2010 and as a QA manager with the National Institutes of Health between 2005 and 2011.
Ms. Gebrekristos is active in her community as a member of her local chamber of commerce and by giving back to local and national charities, including Saint Jude Children's Research Hospital and Shriners. She also hosts sip-and-paint parties at Love Life Coffee every few months, inviting artists to host. The money generated from these parties serves local youth and senior citizens who need assistance by working in collaboration with Bernadette Home, a nonprofit that assists the youth in achieving their dreams, many of whom are homeless or have experienced abuse. Ms. Gebrekristos is also working on developing a nonprofit organization, Woven Womb, Inc., (www.wovenwomb.org) that focuses on the high rate of pregnancy mortality among certain ethnic groups, particularly African Americans, Native Indians, and Alaskans.
In preparation for her career, Ms. Gebrekristos obtained a Bachelor of Science in information system management from the University of Maryland Global Campus and a Master of Science in management information systems with a concentration in information assurance from Bowie State University. In light of her industry success, she received a Merit Award from CACI.
