Ms. Avitua-Ovalle has notably been in the nursing field for over 35 years.

Active in her parish, Ms. Avitua-Ovalle has served as a catechist for the adult confirmation class at Saint Dominic Catholic Church in San Antonio. She has also been affiliated with the National Hispanic Health Foundation as a mentor.
Ms. Avitua-Ovalle graduated with an Associate of Applied Science in nursing, a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Texas at Arlington, and a Master of Business Administration in health care administration from Our Lady of the Lake University. During her studies, she was inducted into Delta Mu Delta and Alpha Chi. Well-qualified in her field, Ms. Avitua-Ovalle received credentials as a registered nurse and licensed vocational nurse. She also garnered chief nursing officer certification through the Academy of Medical-Surgical Nurses.
Active in her professional community, Ms. Avitua-Ovalle remains a member of the American Nurses Association, the American Organization for Nursing Leadership, and the Alzheimer's Association. She has also served as a member and president of the National Association of Hispanic Nurses' San Antonio, Texas, chapter since 2019 and as a member and two-time secretary of the Texas Nurses Association since 2022. Additionally, Ms. Avitua-Ovalle is a member of the National Society of Leadership and Success.
In light of her success in the military, Ms. Avitua-Ovalle was decorated with several awards and medals from the U.S. Army, including an Army Commendation Medal. Due to her professional career, she was honored to receive the 2022 Ruth Stewart Imagemaker Award and was a two-time nominee for recognition among One of the Best 25 Nurses of South-Central Texas, through which she also served as the co-chair and executive producer.
