Dr. Shastri is a geotechnical and structural engineer with experience in industry and academia, having worked on several infrastructure and energy projects. He is currently a professional engineer licensed in the state of Texas. He holds a Bachelor of Engineering in Civil Engineering from the Bangalore Institute of Technology. He also received a Master of Science in Civil Engineering with a focus in Structural Engineering and a Doctorate in Civil Engineering with a focus in Geotechnical Engineering from Texas A&M University in College Station, where he received a scholarship and fellowship to support his research.
While pursuing his doctorate, Dr. Shastri devoted his time as a research and teaching assistant at Texas A&M University. After graduating, he joined Genesis Oil and Gas Consultants as a Geotechnical Engineer in Houston, Texas. There, he worked on several subsea oil and gas projects. He evaluated and designed foundations for a variety of offshore structures. He moved to New York in 2017 to work as an Assistant Project Engineer at District Engineering Solutions Inc. He worked on infrastructure projects to support several government projects, including the New York State Department of Transportation and the New York City Housing Authority.
In 2018, he returned to Houston as a Senior Geotechnical Engineer at Cathie to work on worldwide offshore oil and gas and renewable projects. His next role was as a project engineer at Geosyntec Consultants on a mixture of onshore and offshore projects supporting the oil and gas industry. Currently, Dr. Shastri is a senior geotechnical engineer at Jacobs, where he has been providing geotechnical expertise to support several large infrastructure projects in Texas and Massachusetts.
Along with his educational and vocational pursuits, Dr. Shastri has served in several positions linked to civic engagements for nearly a decade. He was vice chair of the GeoInstitute's Houston chapter before becoming chair, a position he has held since 2021. In addition, Dr. Shastri currently serves as the secretary on the board of the GeoInstitute Texas Section, where he has helped organize several conferences. He is also involved in the board of the Society for Underwater Technology Young Professionals, where he helps organize talks. He earned the Emerging Leader Award at the Offshore Technology Conference in 2022 for his contributions to the field of offshore geotechnical engineering. He attributes his many achievements and professional success to the support and help of the good individuals around him.
Dr. Shastri cites his most significant professional accomplishment to date as his work on a liquefied natural gas (LNG) project in East Africa—a project he was fortunate enough to work on across three different companies and be involved in from start to finish. After years of work, it is set to become operational soon, making it the world's largest LNG facility. Now, Dr. Shastri's focus is on constructing a large reservoir west of Houston, a project in which he is designing the flood control along the Texas–Louisiana border. In the next five to ten years, he desires to work on public interest projects and play a vital role in the development and execution of infrastructure for the next generation.
