Furthermore, Ms. Fernandez lends her expertise as a peer evaluator for the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing. She has also been actively involved in various roles on the board for the Louisiana chapter of the Society of Pediatric Nurses, where she currently holds the position of president. Ms. Fernandez is a valued member of the Louisiana State Nursing Association, the New Orleans District Nursing Association, and the National League of Nursing. Her contributions to the nursing education community have been significant, and she is highly respected for her knowledge, experience, and commitment to the profession.
Prior to her current role, Ms. Fernandez served as a registered nurse at Children's Hospital New Orleans from 2007 until 2015. During this time, she worked in a similar role for East Jefferson General Hospital in 2010 and was an adjunct instructor for Delgado Community College in 2014. After completing her studies, she started working as a nursing instructor at Delgado Community College in 2016. She was later promoted to assistant professor of nursing in 2020 and eventually became the assistant dean in 2022. Throughout her career, she was recognized for her professional achievements, including admission to the National Scholars Honor Society and the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing. She also received multiple nominations and awards for her excellence in nursing education.
In 2005, Ms. Fernandez completed her nursing prerequisites at Delgado Community College to prepare for her professional journey. Later, she received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from William Carey University in 2007 and a Master of Science in Nursing Education from the University of Saint Mary in 2016. She is highly qualified in her field, as she is a certified pediatric nurse by the Pediatric Nursing Certification Board and a Team STEPPS master trainer certified by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality. Additionally, she holds a certification in basic life support for healthcare providers from the American Heart Association.
Within the coming years, Ms. Fernandez intends to transition into a role as a dean, with aspirations to one day serve as vice chancellor of student affairs. As part of this goal, she is pursuing a Doctor of Philosophy in nursing education and administration from William Carey University. Accounting for her success in her career thus far, she credits her father, who was a driving inspirational force in her life as a nurse. When she was 16, her father was in a head-on collision car accident and suffered severe brain trauma. Seeing how the nurses treated and cared for her father, Ms. Fernandez discovered a passion for nursing and is dedicated to progressing in the field.
