With more than three decades of excellence in juvenile justice and detention center counseling, Mr. Lassiter has earned distinction as a youth detention specialist II for the Norfolk Juvenile Detention Center. From 1995 until his retirement in 2018, he focused his efforts on conducting counseling and assessments for individuals within the unit where he was assigned to gather information on the reasons for their presence in the juvenile center and the charges they faced. He created corrective plans that were presented to the court for these individuals and coordinated with Norfolk city schools to oversee the educational needs of detainees while carefully monitoring family visits and facilitating family counseling. He also worked to adequately prepare individuals for reintegration into their communities or placement in more secure detention facilities.
Before his most recent role, Mr. Lassiter served as a substitute teacher, child counselor and campus supervisor for The Barry Robinson Center in 1984 until becoming an employment training specialist for Step-Up Inc. from 1986 to 1994. He also lent his expertise as a member of the Virginia Sheriffs' Institute and The Andrew Brothers, a collective of men dedicated to bridging gaps within their community through active participation in the food bank, providing assistance to those in need of shelter or clothing and contributing to the security aspects of church activities to ensure the safety of all individuals involved.

To prepare for his professional journey, Mr. Lassiter completed coursework in business administration and management from Chowan University. Following this achievement, he earned a Bachelor of Science in Political Science and government from Tennessee Technological University in 1979. Well-qualified in his field, he holds numerous Completion Certificates in Economics, Law, Religion, and Professional Development. Looking to the future, Mr. Lassiter intends to become a homeowner and is looking forward to marriage.
