Avid about giving back to his community, Mr. Johnson was the vice president for Books by Vets (now Creative Literary Consultants) from 2017 to 2019. The organization provides veterans and first responders healing through sharing their stories in anthology collections. Mr. Johnson was also a board member of the Start Helping Impacted Neighborhoods Everywhere (S.H.I.N.E.) Foundation between 2018 and 2019. S.H.I.N.E. is a community service partnership between the county and non-violent offenders to assist in cleaning up Oklahoma City. Moreover, Mr. Johnson is active as the Vice President of Public Relations for the Toastmasters International Storyteller's collective meeting in Norman, OK at Equity Brewing Company.
Mr. Johnson notes surviving and thriving despite a difficult childhood. In addition to relocating more than 35 times across six states, and surviving two murder attempts, he experienced homelessness and lived in five different foster homes. After graduating from high school, he served his country by enlisting in the U.S. Navy in 2000. He was commissioned through the Seaman to Admiral Program as a naval officer in 2011 after completing a Bachelor of Science in multidisciplinary studies. He subsequently attended flight school and flew for nearly 1,500 hours as a Naval Flight Officer. He qualified as a Combat Systems Operator, Mission Commander, and Instructor. He was stationed at NAVCENT, in Bahrain, and was the Fleet Command Center Director, a Commander Billet, as a Lieutenant. Additionally, Mr. Johnson earned a Master of Arts in human relations. He retired from the U.S. Navy March 1, 2022 after declining Lieutenant Commander (O-4).
In light of his accomplishments, Mr. Johnson earned several Podcast Awards in 2021 and has been listed as the top veteran-hosted podcast by Podcast Magazine and At Ease Magazine, and as a top nonprofit host. For his time served in the military, he was named as the Instructor of the Year by the U.S. Navy in 2009. He was also decorated with a Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal and five Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals and received several other awards and decorations. Moreover, Mr. Johnson received the Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal for his contributions to several nonprofit organizations throughout his community. He credits his success to his relationship with Jesus, his wife Megan, and a seemingly endless list of mentors.
