ALBANY, NY, December 22, 2023 /24-7PressRelease/ -- David Suits has been included in Marquis Who's Who. Mr. Suits is a professional engineer, educator, and consultant celebrating more than 50 years of success in his field. An alum of Clarkson University, Mr. Suits completed a bachelor's degree in 1967, and was awarded a Master of Science in chemical engineering in 1969. He has continued to pursue opportunities for research, continuing education, and professional growth throughout his career, and he is a certified PDH provider.
Mr. Suits began his career in 1968, as a soils engineering laboratory supervisor for the New York State Department of Transportation's Geotechnical Engineering Bureau. He would remain with the Department of Transportation for nearly 40 years, overseeing the testing and acceptance of all geosynthetic materials used in the department's projects. In addition to his work for the state of New York, Mr. Suits spent several years as chair of the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials and National Transportation Project Evaluation Program joint geotextile panel, where he supervised the testing and certification process of all geotextile materials submitted. Mr. Suits retired from the New York State Department of Transportation in 2005, and was named executive director of the North American Geosynthetics Society the same year, a position he would continue to hold until 2017.
Since 2016, Mr. Suits has been an independent consultant and professional engineer with LDS Geosynthetic Consultant Services, where he offers clients his industry-leading expertise in geosynthetics and geotechnical engineering as well as broader topics in science and engineering. His work focuses on soils and geosynthetic training with an emphasis on quality assurance program development, testing setups, and test standards. Mr. Suits is a former adjunct professor at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and an associate editor of the Transportation Research Record. He has published extensively, with contributions to more than 30 papers and articles as well as a chapter in the Kirk-Orthmer Concise Encyclopedia of Chemical Technology, 4th Ed.
As one of the top voices in his specialty, Mr. Suits has been named Engineer of the Year by the New York State Department of Transportation and is the recipient of an Award of Merit from ASTM International, the organization's highest honor. He has held leadership roles in numerous ASTM committees, the Transportation Research Board, and the National Academy of Sciences, and he remains on the board of directors of the Geosynthetic Institute. Mr. Suits credits his success to his open-mindedness and willingness to learn from others, and to the support of his professional mentors, employers, and colleagues. In his personal time, Mr. Suits is active in his community as a volunteer and supporter of Great Camp Sagamore, and he enjoys spending time in nature at a local lake.
