Dr. Lee's educational background laid a strong foundation for his professional success. He completed studies at Dartmouth College in 1968 with Phi Beta Kappa honors. He entered his fellowship in cardiovascular medicine at Yale School of Medicine in 1985, after serving as chief medical resident in internal medicine at Yale-New Haven Hospital in 1983. His residency at the same hospital was completed in 1982, following his graduation with a Doctor of Medicine, cum laude, from Yale University School of Medicine in 1979.
Outside of his professional endeavors, Dr. Lee has dedicated himself to extensive research on African Americans in medicine. His scholarly pursuits led him to co-author in 2018 the book, A Noble and Independent Course, an account of the life of Rev. Edward Mitchell, the first person of African descent to graduate from Dartmouth College and the Ivy League in 1828. This work reflects Dr. Lee's deep interest in history and his commitment to uncovering and sharing important narratives that have shaped the medical profession.
In addition to his academic research interests, Dr. Lee is passionate about doing family research and genealogy research. He is driven by a desire to gain a deeper understanding of his ancestors and the challenges they faced. This personal quest is not only significant to him but also contributes to a broader understanding of historical contexts and their impact on present-day society.
Dr. Lee has been honored with three awards recognizing his contributions to medicine and academia. As he continues his journey, he remains steadfast in his commitment to exploring his family's past while contributing meaningfully to the field of transplant cardiology and medical history.
