With a doctorate in Computational Science, Engineering, and Mathematics from The University of Texas at Austin, Dr. Morales Escalante has dedicated three years and a half to his current roles, where he is responsible for research, teaching and service within the Mathematics and Physics & Astronomy departments. He teaches mathematics to both undergraduate and graduate students throughout the Fall semester and physics courses during the Spring semesters. Additionally, he leads his own research group and is recognized as an expert in kinetic equations.
Dr. Morales Escalante's career journey began as both a teaching assistant and graduate research assistant at the Applied Mathematics Research Group-ICES at the University of Texas at Austin from 2009 to 2011. He then served as a visiting researcher at Brown University during 2012 before returning to the University of Texas at Austin as a NIMS fellow from 2011 to 2013. His role expanded to include teaching assistant duties in 2016 (which he also performed during half his time as a graduate student at UT Austin). Following his graduation with a Doctor of Philosophy in 2016, Dr. Morales Escalante continued his postdoctoral education, first as a researcher at Technische Universität Wien from 2016 to 2018 and then as a fellow at McMaster University from 2018 to 2020 before assuming his current position. His dedication to academia and research has earned him high praise for achieving an exceptional level of expertise in his field.
Building upon a solid educational foundation, Dr. Morales Escalante earned a Bachelor of Science in physics from Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico in 2008 and later completed his Doctor of Philosophy in Computational Science, Engineering, and Mathematics at the University of Texas at Austin in 2016. He credits his success to the strong work ethic instilled by his parents and the competitive spirit they fostered. Influential mentors throughout his academic journey include Manuel Carillo and Bernando Tarango, his high school physics professors; Professors Panos Panayotaros and Maria del Carmen Jorge from Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico; Professor Irene Gamba, his doctoral advisor; and postdoctoral advisors Professors Clemens Heitzinger and Bartosz Protas.
Outside of his professional life, Dr. Morales Escalante was born in Mexico City and enjoys reading, playing soccer, running and spending time with friends. Looking ahead, he aims to become a leader in his area of research within the next decade. Throughout his career, Dr. Morales Escalante has been honored with three prestigious awards that recognize his contributions to mathematics and physics.
