A leading voice in his profession, Dr. Martinez has delivered presentations and authored publications pertaining to the community college sector, with a focus on the needs and experiences of both students and professionals within these institutions. His works — including many exploring the impact of community colleges on Latino populations — have been published in Leadership Exchange, About Campus-Sage Journals, the Journal of Student Financial Aid and other publications in his field.
Prior to joining Suffolk County Community College in 2014, Dr. Martinez served as national community college division director of the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators and dean of students / director of student life for Briarcliffe College. Earlier in his career, he held student affairs and residence life positions at Dowling College, The Culinary Institute of America, and Dominican University New York.
Dr. Martinez holds a Bachelor of Arts in social sciences from Dominican University New York, a Master of Science in counseling and human development from Long Island University, and a Doctor of Education in educational leadership and administration from Dowling College. He holds certifications related to behavioral intervention, risk assessment, crisis intervention and suicide prevention.
