After a successful tenure in construction and entrepreneurship, Mr. Dawson began serving as the executive director of the Chippewa Valley Habitat for Humanity in 2020 and in a dual role also became executive director for Barron County Habitat for Humanity in 2021. Founded as a Christian-based organization, Habitat for Humanity is recognized as a global organization with a presence in local communities across all 50 states and abroad in approximately 70 countries. As part of its commitments, the charity builds affordable housing and repairs homes to provide housing for working families who can't afford a home. This is accomplished by partnering with volunteers, churches, businesses, and local governments.
Hailing from a prosperous career, Mr. Dawson was the founder and president of Dawson Builders from 2006 to 2020. He also held positions as senior executive and president at Zurich Insurance Company between 1986 and 2006. During his distinguished tenure in corporate America, Mr. Dawson spent two decades managing profit and staff centers in the U.S. and overseas. He has since shifted his focus from maximizing his profits during his early years to providing his expertise later in life to those in need.
Reflecting on his life, Mr. Dawson is most proud of serving an instrumental role in helping provide affordable housing and essential repairs for those in need. Drawing constant motivation to give back, he looks forward to continued success as an executive director and encourages others to do the same.
As part of his ongoing civic interests, Mr. Dawson founded The Build Team, a nonprofit organization launched in Chicago in 2013. Today the Build Team through a dedicated group of volunteers continues to provide essential home repairs for homeowners in need. He has also served on the board of directors for School District 155, was a mission trip coordinator for local youth and adult groups and has been on mission trips spearheaded by The Build Team. Moreover, Mr. Dawson has participated with the Aging in the Home Remodelers Inc. and Harvard University's Joint Center for Housing.
Highly educated, Mr. Dawson earned a bachelor's degree in education from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire and a master's degree in educational statistics and research methods from the University of Utah. He subsequently received credentials as an associate in risk management, a chartered Property casualty underwriter, courses at Kellogg School of Management and an aging-in-place specialist.
He enjoyed competing in marathons, triathlon, Spartan racing and the Senior Games. This summer he will ride an 84-mile mountain stage of this year's Tour de France from Nice to Col de la Couillole.
