After a long and successful career in education and administration, Dr. Johnson retired as the principal at Phillips Middle School in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, in 2006. Having previously dabbled in consulting for a state department for about a year, she returned to the field by establishing ejohnson Consulting LLC. Specializing as a motivational speaker and coaching, Dr. Johnson serves educators and principals, traveling the nation to visit classrooms, providing her expertise, and making a difference in students' lives. Moreover, she engages in speaking engagements, workshops, and conventions to share and discuss her work.
Dr. Johnson formerly spent 15 years as a classroom teacher in Edgecombe County, North Carolina. Throughout her career, she rose to become an assistant principal at South Edgecombe Middle School and the principal at Robertson Elementary School and Phillips Middle School.
In addition to her commitments in consulting, Dr. Johnson is civically active with the Edgecombe County Board of Education, overseeing the school district's 14 schools. She also volunteers her time at a local hospital.
Looking toward the future, Dr. Johnson plans to release her first book, tentatively titled "Death in the House," which will chronicle her experiences after losing her husband and son to disease and will aim to support people, mainly African Americans, as they learn to cope with death in their families.
Highly educated, Dr. Johnson earned a Bachelor of Science in elementary education from Winston-Salem State University in 1969, a Master of Education in administration and supervision from East Carolina University in 1980, and a Doctor of Educational Leadership from Nova Southeastern University in 1995.
Dedicated to her field, Dr. Johnson remains aware of developments as an active member of the National Education Association and the National Retired Teachers Association. She is also the director of the State Employees Credit Union.
In light of her success, Dr. Johnson was honored to receive a Star Teacher Award. She draws a sense of accomplishment in witnessing students grow and aspire to be the best version of themselves. She also notes her ability to help educational leaders as they develop and reach their professional goals.
