Mr. Helfer honorably served his country in the U.S. Army from 1999 to 2007. During that time, he served as a flight engineer on Chinook helicopters, and was critical in providing medical aid to remote areas in Alaska. His interest in IT became his life's work when an avoidable accident caused a mishap in Iraq that crashed his aircraft and caused life changing injuries to his entire crew. Mr. Helfer stayed in the Army until he had digitized the system that caused the crash, ending the risk to future soldiers.
