Leveraging more than four decades of excellence in neonatal nursing, Ms. Pfeil has earned distinction as a neonatal nurse practitioner for the Albany Medical Center. From 2001 until her recent retirement, she focused her efforts on taking care of premature babies as well as infants with congenital anomalies and genetic abnormalities. She accompanied attending physicians on rounds and went on transports to different hospitals to pick up babies if needed and provided support to parents and families during difficult times. Added to these responsibilities, she spent time precepting new practitioners, mentoring new registered nurses and collaborating with residents. Additionally, she is a valued member of the National Association of Neonatal Nurses, the Academy of Neonatal Nursing, and Sigma Theta Tau.
Before her present role, Ms. Pfeil joined the Albany Medical Center in 1978 as a registered nurse for the neonatal intensive care unit and was promoted to an assistant nurse manager in 1980. She then served as a nurse manager for the neonatal intensive care unit in 1985 until taking a role as a registered nurse and neonatal transport nurse in 1997. She has also lent her expertise as a S.T.A.B.L.E. instructor and neonatal resuscitation program instructor. Among her professional accomplishments, she was honored with a Pillars of Nursing Award in 2023.
To prepare for her nursing career, Ms. Pfeil earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the State University of New York at Plattsburgh in 1978. Following this achievement, she attained a Master of Science in Nursing from Russell Sage College in 1988 and a post-masters certificate as a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner from the State University of New York at Stony Brook. Well-qualified in her field, she holds certifications as a clinical nurse specialist, neonatal nurse practitioner and nurse practitioner. Looking to the future, Ms. Pfeil intends to continue enjoying her retirement.
