Ms. King has led a long and distinguished career in education for more than 50 years. Teaching at Las Cruces Public Schools since 1975, she has taught courses in reading, mathematics, spelling, writing, and other subjects. Having notably spent 25 of those years at just one of the schools in the district, Valley View Elementary School, it is recognized as a Title I school. Ms. King taught kindergarten and first grade in Anaheim, California, for several years before relocating to New Mexico. She was also a substitute teacher for grades K-8 at the John Paul Taylor Academy and was a student teacher supervisor. In addition to traditional education, Ms. King found success as a Pilates teacher.
Looking toward future endeavors, Ms. King aims to remain active in education as a substitute teacher. She also plans to volunteer throughout her community as much as possible. Ms. King is presently involved in local politics, supporting and assisting with local campaigns as a precinct vice chair in Dona Ana County. She is also active as a board member and program chairperson for the local chapter of Soroptimist International, an organization that caters to girls and women. Moreover, Ms. King contributes to area animal adoption organizations.
A graduate of Western New Mexico University, Ms. King received a bachelor's degree in elementary education with a minor in physical education. She also received credentials as a certified Pilates instructor.
As a dedicated instructor, Ms. King remains abreast in her industry as a life member and vice president of the Las Cruces National Education Association (NEA) chapter. She was also elected into the NEA Hall of Fame in 2009 for appreciation and outstanding service in the southwest region of the organization in New Mexico.
Admittingly a strict teacher, Ms. King truly cares about the welfare of her students and devotes herself to establishing nurturing relationships with them. She credits her tenure in education to her deep respect for her students and the parents who care for them.
