Mr. Ratcliff is currently serving as the executive director of Arts On Main, a role he has held since 2023. In this capacity, he oversees a dedicated team comprising five staff members and one part-time employee. His leadership extends to managing three galleries that showcase the works of artists from across the United States, including New York, California, and Nebraska. Mr. Ratcliff's commitment to arts education is evident through his involvement with free programs such as afterschool art classes for elementary students in Van Buren and two nearby towns, homeschoolers art classes, and extensive summer camps lasting 15 weeks. Additionally, he coordinates school-age and adult art competitions and teaches private music lessons for instruments including trumpet, low brass, euphonium, and percussion.
Prior to his current role at Arts On Main, Mr. Ratcliff was the director of operations and manager at King Opera House starting in 2022. His passion for music education was further exemplified during his tenure as a freelance trumpet teacher from 2015 to 2023. Mr. Ratcliff's distinguished career in music education includes his time as the director of bands at Alma High School from 1999 to 2015. Before that, he served as assistant director of bands at Northside High School in 1988-1989 and as band director at Kimmons Junior High from 1985 to 1988. Throughout his career, Mr. Ratcliff has been instrumental in developing award-winning band programs that have garnered regional and national recognition.
Mr. Ratcliff's educational background includes master's coursework in educational leadership with 30 credit hours completed. He earned a Master of Music in Music Performance from the University of Arkansas between 1981 and 1983 and a Bachelor of Music Education from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville in 1981. His academic achievements have played a significant role in shaping his successful career in music education and arts administration.
In addition to his professional endeavors, Mr. Ratcliff has made substantial contributions to the community through Arts On Main. The organization not only features an art gallery but also provides studios and classrooms for various arts disciplines including culinary arts, ceramics, traditional arts programs, and theater for both children and adults. His personal life is deeply intertwined with music; his wife is an oboe instrument teacher and together they have raised two children: Matthew and Kristen. An avid dog lover, Mr. Ratcliff is committed to furthering the mission of Arts On Main by expanding its program offerings and enhancing community engagement through the transformative power of the arts.
