As a high school student, Dr. Cardoso had wonderful teachers who encouraged him to pursue a career in the sciences. After completing his first experiment at 14 years old, he became fascinated by the intricacies of nature and how it worked, which led him to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Agronomy at the Federal Rural University of Rio de Janeiro. Upon graduating in 2009, he was driven to further his knowledge and completed a master's degree in soil sciences at his alma mater three years later. Armed by his considerable knowledge, Dr. Cardoso began as a PhD researcher and candidate at São Paulo State University.
In 2016, Dr. Cardoso graduated from São Paulo State University with a PhD in Animal Science, at which point he became a postdoctoral researcher. Backed by his professional knowledge and experience, he excels today as a postdoctoral research scholar at the University of Florida, where he researches ecosystem services and natural and improved grasslands. Likewise, he investigates greenhouse gas emissions and climate change. In addition to his research, Dr. Cardoso maintains responsibility for reviewing papers and training students.
Over the years, Dr. Cardoso has authored several publications, including "Seasonal effects on ammonia, nitrous oxide, and methane emissions for beef cattle excreta and urea fertilizer applied to a tropical pasture" and "Impact of the intensification of beef production in Brazil on greenhouse gas emissions and land use." Aside from authoring numerous articles, Dr. Cardoso has been recognized as an outstanding reviewer for the Journal of Cleaner Production.
Driven to remain abreast of changes in the field, Dr. Cardoso aligns himself with the Soil Science Society of America and the American Forage and Grassland Council. In light of his outstanding body of work, he received a grant through the São Paulo Research Foundation. However, the highlight of his career was the groundbreaking research he conducted in pursuit of his master's degree. Due to the nature of his research on nitrous oxide emissions from beef excreta, it was included in the IPCC Guidelines for National Greenhouse Gas Inventories. Looking ahead, Dr. Cardoso would like to become a professor at a prestigious university, through which he can impart his knowledge to others.
