Mr. Isham began his career as a journalist in 1976 in the documentary unit at NBC News and subsequently as an Associate Producer with ABC News in 1978. Over the years, he became a Senior Producer and head of the investigative unit from 1988 to 2001 and the Chief of Investigative Projects for the network between 2001 and 2007. During his years at ABC News, Mr. Isham was instrumental in developing an investigative unit that became one of the most successful of its kind, breaking hundreds of news stories and exclusive reports on various topics. He was also influential in hiring key staff members and producing programming for all ABC News broadcasts, including ABC World News Tonight, Nightline, 20/20, Primetime, and Good Morning America. Mr. Isham became known for training and launching the careers of many talented investigative reporters. At one point, the heads of all three network news investigative units were alumni of Mr. Isham's investigative team.
Among a myriad of other professional accomplishments, Mr. Isham produced an interview with Osama bin Laden in May 1998 for ABC News. It was a complex and challenging assignment that, despite various obstacles, is recognized as the most significant interview ever conducted with the Saudi-born Islamic dissident and terrorist leader. Mr. Isham's career in journalism has notably taken him around the world to such places as Afghanistan, Pakistan, Lebanon, Iraq, Israel, Syria, Saudi Arabia and the UAE.
In 2007, Mr. Isham was hired by CBS News to be Vice President and Washington Bureau Chief responsible for oversight of the network's coverage of the White House, the federal government, congress, and the courts as well as all political and election coverage. During his 14 year tenure, Mr. Isham revitalized the DC bureau, growing the staff by 30-40 percent, structuring a deal to construct a new six story building with state-of-the-art IP technology and moving the CBS Evening News from New York to DC. At CBS, Mr. Isham also oversaw "Face The Nation," the network's long running Sunday public affairs broadcast, which rose to first place in the ratings during his tenure. The Washington Bureau of CBS News once again became "the place to be."
Besides his work at C|T, Mr. Isham is a senior advisor to several independent start-up news sites. Invested in community affairs, Mr. Isham is an active member of the Council on Foreign Relations and the Economic Club of Washington. The son of a U.S. Foreign Service Officer, Mr. Isham was born in Berlin and grew up in Moscow, Hong Kong, Paris and Washington, DC, and is fluent in French. He is a graduate of Groton School and received his Bachelor of Arts in literature from Yale University in 1976.
