Now retired, Dr. Hoyt devoted decades to his career focusing heavily on the pharmaceutical biotechnology and diagnostics sectors. His career began to take shape while serving in the U.S. Air Force, treating pilots during the Vietnam War. Following his service, he held roles with several large pharmaceutical companies, including Baxter International, for over a decade as the vice president of Baxter DX Group, followed by positions with medical diagnostics and instrumentation companies. Additionally, Dr. Hoyt became known for his work as an entrepreneur, having founded Blood Cell Storage Inc. (BCSI) in 1999, a private company that operates under the name SAFE Sens. Among other accomplishments, he led two companies that went public as their chief executive officer.

As a leader in pharmaceutics, Dr. Hoyt found success in high-level positions in therapeutics and biologics. He was instrumental in getting approval for 20 new drugs and over 55 variations throughout his career, including for Nitroglycerin Intravenous, Nitroglycerin long-acting, and the first immunoassay system. He also helped secure approval from the Food and Drug Administration for 80 510(k) and 19 new drug and product marketing applications. Moreover, Dr. Hoyt was notably involved in introducing a new drug called Intropin, which uses dopamine to prevent patients from going into shock during surgery. This innovative drug has saved many lives and has standardized practice in critical care units worldwide. Similarly, his work with soluble steroids has been equally groundbreaking, providing widely used treatments that have helped countless patients recover from serious spine and brain injuries.

Dr. Hoyt has also been recognized for his expertise in helping small startup companies. He has also provided his service as a board director for Microprobe.Imre and Response Biomedical. Additionally, Dr. Hoyt has been elected to the Royal College of Physicians.

Active in his local community, Dr. Hoyt has worked with the City of Wellington and Buena Vida, an active retirement community in Palm Beach County, Florida. He has invested time with his local Big Brothers Big Sisters of America. Most honorably, Dr. Hoyt served his country in the U.S. Air Force as a flight surgeon for a tactical air command fighter squadron.

Dr. Hoyt graduated from Queen's College with a Bachelor of Science in physical chemistry and from Washington University with a Doctor of Medicine and a subspecialty in clinical pharmacology and aerospace medicine. He subsequently completed his residency and postgraduate training in the U.S. Air Force. As part of his ongoing commitments to medicine, Dr. Hoyt has been a dedicated member of the American Society for Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics.

In light of his success, Dr. Hoyt was a Presidential Scholar and received a New York State Honorary Medical Award and an Adams scholarship award from Washington University in the school of medicine.
