Prior to her current role, Ms. Buford was the vice president of marketing for the Americas at Sirtex Medical Limited from 2018 to 2021. She also held significant positions at Abbott as the director of corporate development, strategic marketing and execution from 2016 to 2018, at Astellas Pharma as the director of US urology franchise marketing for Myrbetriq® launch and strategic partnerships from 2012 to 2015, and as the director of US VESIcare® & consumer marketing and GSK co-marketing alliance from 2009 to 2012. Her tenure at Eli Lilly and Company was marked by her roles as the director of global marketing and international marketing leader for neuroscience/ADHD and Strattera® launch from 2005 to 2009, a brand manager for women's health/Evista® and osteoporosis marketing from 2003 to 2005, a manager of marketing capabilities from 2001 to 2003, a manager of e-business and consumer marketing from 2000 to 2001, and a district sales manager for primary care pharmaceutical sales from 1999 to 2000. Before entering the pharmaceutical sector, Ms. Buford worked as the Chevrolet brand marketing manager for trucks at General Motors from 1996 to 1998.
Ms. Buford's expertise in business development, marketing, team and product leadership, customer engagement, brand and franchise engagement, P&L and commercialization is widely recognized and praised within her industry. Her leadership played a pivotal role in the successful launch of Strattera®, the first adult ADHD medication ever introduced while at Eli Lilly. Additionally, her innovative approach as franchise leader for urology at Astellas Pharma led to sustained growth and numerous awards for their product, and market-leader VESIcare®, Myrbetriq® and first-of-a-kind advocacy, promotions and partner collaborations.
Transitioning into the educational background which underpins her professional success, Ms. Buford completed an executive leadership development program in organizational leadership at the Northwestern University Kellogg School of Management in 2001. She earned a Master of Business Administration, with a concentration in marketing, from Florida A&M University in 1991 and also holds a Bachelor of Business Administration and Management, with a concentration in finance, from the same institution.
Ms. Buford attributes her success to her passion for health care and marketing—fields she considers a labor of love—and credits her achievements to her curiosity and desire to understand people's behaviors to make a meaningful difference in their lives. Raised by exceptional parents in North Carolina and Michigan, who instilled positive values and taught her to engage with people from all walks of life, Ms. Buford has embraced multiple opportunities that have shaped her career trajectory.
