Leading a long and successful career in education, Ms. Hartley has been an associate professor at Butte-Glenn Community College in California since 1994, teaching sociology courses and conducting ongoing research in her field to remain abreast of current trends. She has notably been teaching academia since she graduated with her master's degree.

She continues as chair of the associate faculty conference for the professional development committee.
Invested in her community, Ms. Hartley volunteers for various local initiatives and actively supports her church. Highly educated, she pursued an education at California State University in Chico, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in public relations and advertising in 1976 and a Master of Arts in interdisciplinary studies of criminology in 1994.
As part of her continued commitments to her field, Ms. Hartley is a member of the California Sociological Association, the Pacific Sociological Association, and a former chair of the retired emeritus faculty committee of the Pacific Sociological Association. She is a member of the California Part-Time Faculty Association, and also a former treasurer of the Butte College Part-Time Faculty Association. Additionally, she is a member of the University Professional and Technical Employees, and the Communications Workers of America Union.
In light of her success, Butte College bestowed the Golden Apple Award upon Ms. Hartley. The Golden Apple Award is given to that associate faculty who goes above and beyond their regular duties. Ms. Hartley was recognized for her work within the sociology department with scheduling, assisting with the department's curriculum and unit planning. Ms. Hartley credits her achievements to her former academic teachers and professional mentors for providing her with guidance, wisdom, and her passion for teaching the generations of students who follow in her footsteps.
