Rettaliata professor of mechanical and aerospace engineering for the Illinois Institute of Technology (ILLINOIS TECH). Having been on the faculty of the university since 1970, he has focused his efforts as professor since 1980 on teaching and conducting research while participating in governance of the university. He also provides consulting services to industry, government and other universities, such as the University of Bologna in Italy and King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) in Saudi Arabia. Throughout his tenure, he has also held visiting positions at other esteemed universities such as the California Institute of Technology, Stanford University, EPFL Lausanne in Switzerland, the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, the University of Melbourne in Australia, and Friedrich-Alexander-University Erlangen-Nürnberg in Germany, among others.
While developing his current position, Dr. Nagib also served as a chief scientist for the IIT Research Institute from 1998 until 2003. Among his professional accomplishments, he was honored with a Robert T. Knapp Award from the American Society of Mechanical Aerospace Engineering and with a NASA Award in 1982. He received an IIT Alumni Association Professional Achievement Award for his outstanding work with the institution and was admitted as a fellow to the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, the American Association for the Advancement of Science and the American Physical Society.
Prior to embarking on his professional journey, Dr. Nagib earned a Bachelor of Science in mechanical and aerospace engineering from the Illinois Institute of Technology in 1968. Following this achievement, he attained a Master of Science in 1969 and a Doctor of Philosophy in 1972, both also in mechanical and aerospace engineering from the Illinois Institute of Technology.
Looking to the future, Dr. Nagib intends to continue to make a lasting contribution to the field of turbulence, and fluid mechanics. Accounting for his success in his field, he credits his stellar education, which helped him to build the discipline needed in his profession and established learning as a continuous process in his professional development.
