LOS ANGELES, CA, February 02, 2024 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Maylen Calienes has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
A passionate artist driven to inspire others through her work, Ms. Calienes brings visibility and opportunities to storytellers as founder and president of the Latino Filmmakers Network. Additionally, she collaborates with directors, producers, executives, and various other industry professionals with the aim of providing opportunities for Latinos and underrepresented storytellers in the entertainment industry. Backed by her considerable expertise, Ms. Calienes speaks at fellowship programs and studios with the intent of improving the industry and promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion.
An award-winning producer, writer, director, and actress, Ms. Calienes has also excelled in the entertainment industry through MayCal Productions and Multi Studios. In addition to writing pilots, including "The Three Bilinguals" and "Bro's," she directed such shorts as "Havana-Gila," "Domino," and "Border Line," and executive produced "The Shadow of the Sun" and "Esta Es Tu Cuba." It was due to her own lack of opportunities that she was driven to establish the Latino Filmmakers Network. During the early stages of her career, Ms. Calienes also served as a theater instructor with the Performing Arts Academy and Dade County Public Schools.
Before starting her professional journey, Ms. Calienes studied at the University of California, Los Angeles, and earned an Associate of Arts in theater and communication from Miami Dade College. Driven to further her knowledge, she is currently studying at the University of London. Outside of work, she contributes to her community by feeding the homeless, planting trees, and preparing food for senior citizens.
While her career has been filled with highlights, Ms. Calienes is most proud of three movies becoming Academy Award contenders: "The Shadow of the Sun," "And the Brave Shall Rise" and "Esta Es Tu Cuba," which won a Student Academy Award. Likewise, "The Shadow of the Sun" was the official selection for Venezuela for Best International Feature Film for the 96th Academy Awards. Though hard work and dedication have brought her far in her career, she credits her success to her unyielding passion and commitment to what she does. Looking ahead, Ms. Calienes intends to create a story that ignites her passion.
