LONG ISLAND CITY, NY, February 05, 2024 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Yaroslav Kharkov, PhD, has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Dr. Kharkov is a research scientist with Amazon Web Services (AWS), where since 2022 he has been working in challenging problems at the intersection of quantum computing and machine learning. His deep knowledge of theoretical physics, mathematical physics and advanced scientific computational methods paves the way to solving problems in the quantum computing industry; additionally, he collaborates across multiple teams within AWS as well as external clients. Dr. Kharkov is also proud of his contributions to new algorithms related to quantum compilation as well as solving optimization problems with near term quantum devices as well as automating benchmarking software within the organization.
Dr. Kharkov boasts a stellar academic portfolio, including a Bachelor of Science in physics from Novosibirsk State University then completed a Master of Science in particle physics from the same institution. Subsequently, he accepted the opportunity to study and work in Australia, where he was pursuing a PhD degree at the University of New South Wales from 2014 through 2017 in condensed matter theory. Through an International University Postgraduate Research Award, he also contributed at the rank of research associate, and Dr. Kharkov further fortified his presence in the region by joining Fractal Wealth Management as a quantitative developer between 2016 and 2017.
Notably, Dr. Kharkov has held several prominent roles across the industry, such as junior scientist at Budker Institute of Nuclear Physics SB RAS in Russia and at Novosibirsk State University, where Dr. Kharkov also mentored students as a teaching assistant from 2011 through 2013. Joint Quantum Institute welcomed him as a postdoctoral researcher from 2019 through 2022, and he served concurrently as a principal research consultant at Turation in the United Kingdom, developing an open source software package Arline for benchmarking of quantum compilation pipelines. Additionally, Dr. Kharkov was engaged with the Russian Quantum Center in Moscow from 2018 through 2020 as a visiting scientist.
Dr. Kharkov has contributed meaningfully to the ongoing scholarly conversation in his field with careful research and the prolific publication of over 30 papers. Some of the most influential papers include the paper "Bound states of skyrmions and merons near the Lifshitz point" published in Physical Review Letters predicting a new phenomenon of near-critical bound states between topological defects in 2D magnetic materials. Another notable works include "Discovering hydrodynamic equations of many-body quantum systems", that proposes a new machine learning method for extracting analytical form of partial differential equations describing effective dynamics of complex quantum systems.
In pursuit of an entrepreneurial venture, Dr. Kharkov co-founded BlackCurrant Inc. He assisted in launching the online marketplace that specializes in alternative, low-carbon fuel known as green hydrogen, and Dr. Kharkov is gratified to help supply hydrogen commodities across diverse sectors including logistics and communications.
Numerous accolades have marked Dr. Kharkov's academic and professional milestones thus far, including the Scholarship for Outstanding Theoretical Physicists from the Dynasty Foundation in both 2010 and 2011. He also humbly accepted the Gordon Godfrey Scholarship for Young Theoretical Physicists from the University of South Wales in 2013.
Perseverance and dedication have proven foundational to Dr. Kharkov's profile, and he also cites the solid educational credentials he earned in Russia as critical to his advancement thus far. He aims to explore more of the world through hiking, inspired by already having visited almost all of the national parks in the United States, and he will pursue additional expertise through directed reading about entrepreneurship and machine learning to further solidify his distinguished position as a technology expert at the crossroads of artificial intelligence and science. Additionally, Dr. Kharkov intends to gain citizenship and establish permanent residency in the United States.
