Ms. Pool is a successful business owner and author who established Quilted Treasures by Agnes in Columbiana, Alabama, in 2010 after a successful career in beauty, transportation, and other fields. Recognized for her talent in this sector as a master quilter by the State Council on the Arts, the organization provides her with grant money to teach and preserve the art of quilting, which is considered one of America's most significant folk arts.
Through her company, Ms. Pool teaches quilting twice weekly from January through September and dedicates time to making custom quilts. She can have up to five apprentices at any given time and, in the past year, had four females and one male apprentice. In her role, Ms. Pool teaches every aspect of quilting, including cutting and stitching by hand and how to use a sewing machine for piecing and quilting properly. Ms. Pool notably has extensive expertise in creating intricately designed and meticulously crafted quilts that are also aesthetically pleasing and functional.
In addition to maintaining Quilted Treasures by Agnes, Ms. Pool is a published author who released "Making Treasures While Making Do: Documentation of a Quilting Legacy" in 2013 and "Documenting Your Quilted Treasures: A Step by Step Guide" in 2014.
Previously, Ms. Pool spent over two decades as a hairdresser. She also worked in the upholstery industry for 10 years and was an office administrator for the Alabama Department of Transportation for another 10 years. More recently, she was a library assistant for the Columbiana Public Library from 2008 to 2014.
Ms. Pool has frequently given back to charity and nonprofit organizations, including the Alabama chapter of Quilts for Kids, since 2009. She also began making 50- by 64-inch teen-size quilts for boys and girls experiencing abusive situations through Owens House and King's Home. Moreover, Ms. Pool co-founded Columbiana Quilts 4 Kids, the sister chapter of Quiltsforkids.org, creating patchwork for cotton quilts for seriously ill and abused children.
As part of her continued commitments to her field, Ms. Pool has been a member of the South East division of the American Quilt Study Group since 2012. In light of her accomplishments, she has won seveeral Blue Ribbon Awards, beginning at the age of nine.
