Mr. Jarnagan's career has taken him all over the country, upholding numerous roles in both engineering and project management with such notable organizations as the Tennessee Valley Authority in Knoxville and Fluor-Daniel Inc. (now Fluor Corporation) in Rochester, New York, as a project control engineer, the Washington State Department of Transportation in Seattle as a program manager, and Sound Transit in design-build project management. Before joining Hill International, Mr. Jarnagan spent over two decades with Hatch Mott MacDonald (now Mott MacDonald) in Seattle, serving as the vice president between 1998 and 2021. He has been active in the field since 1980.
Among his most recognizable accomplishments, Mr. Jarnagan was instrumental as part of the Alaskan Way Viaduct Replacement Program during his years as program manager on that assignment. Assisting in replacing an elevated highway in Seattle that had been compromised by an earthquake in 2001, he was part of the team required to bring down the structure and provide an alternative route by installing the second-biggest underground tunnel of its type in the world.
Civically involved, Mr. Jarnagan has been affiliated with the Great Lakes Shipwreck Historical Society and the Lutheran Brotherhood. He also served as the chairperson for the Beach Boys Historic Landmark Project, which created California Historical Landmark #1041, the Site of the Childhood Home of the Beach Boys, which was dedicated in May 2005.
Mr. Jarnagan is highly educated, having earned a Bachelor of Science from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point in 1975 and a Master of Engineering in civil engineering from Texas A&M University in 1984. Following his bachelor's degree, he honorably served his country in the U.S. Army to the rank of captain between 1975 and 1980. Mr. Jarnagan was a registered professional engineer in Texas for many years, beginning in 1986. Today, he remains aware of developments in his industry as a life member, fellow, and past president of AACE International, a program/project management professional association.
Attributing his success to his communication skills and work ethic, Mr. Jarnagan has been recognized with several accolades, including a Customer Care Award and a Project Management Award from Hatch Mott MacDonald and a Lifetime Achievement Award from AACE International.
