A skilled Certified Professional Coder, Ms. Morgan (formerly known as Lisa Fisher) has earned distinction in her profession as an individual eager to share her knowledge and experience with others. Starting out in medical billing, she quickly learned all aspects of the field from obtaining proper information and coding to reimbursement and follow up.
With her eye for details and her eagerness to share her knowledge, she was always in the forefront of her profession. For 10 years, she answered coding questions for the Maine Medical Association. She was the first person in Maine to electronically transmit insurance claims for the insurance company now known as Cigna. From 1997 to 2006, she owned and operated her own psychology billing service dba as Fisher Medical Billing. When there was no education offered for medical billing and coding, she created two classes for Lewiston Adult Education to incorporate into their Medical Billing Certification Program which utilized recycled coding books to cut costs for her students. She taught the very popular billing and coding courses from 1998 to 2014 and, at times, had lecture halls with 50+ students and a waiting list for the next semester. Her proudest moments were when her former students became her coding colleagues. In 2015, Ms. Morgan did some independent consulting and research for the Human Services Research Institute to provide clinical information for them to create a Maine website, CompareMaine.org. This website assisted consumers to compare medical services offered in Maine as part of the requirement of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act.
Over the years, she worked for various physicians, hospitals and billing services and was always actively involved in any training and research. In 2002, Ms. Morgan became a Certified Professional Coder through the American Academy of Professional Coders. She was and remains very active in her local chapter serving as New Member Office in 2008 and two terms as President in 2013 and 2014.
Since 2017, she has been employed as a remote coder by the St. Lawrence Healthcare System in the North Country of New York handling the Emergency Department coding for three hospitals. Now in her role as the Health Information Management Lead Coder and ED Liaison, she oversees the two coding vendors to assure the ED services are billed and coded accurately, making necessary adjustments and assisting her coding team with any new procedures and/or questions.
Her remote position has allowed her to achieve her lifelong goal to become a "snowbird," traveling from her home state of Maine to her new Florida residence to escape the cold weather. Looking to the future, she plans to semi-retire, do some consulting, and possibly venture into some creative endeavors.
