Dr. Hamilton is a professor emeritus who taught business and economics courses to undergraduate, graduate, and doctorate-level students at the University of Florida in Gainesville from 1984 to 2020. In 2018, Dr. Hamilton was appointed as a Distinguished Visiting Professor at Hubei University of Economics.
During his teaching career, Dr. Hamilton worked with a colleague born in China to lead successful study tours for Master of Business Administration students in Beijing and Shanghai from 2009 to 2014.
Dr. Hamilton has been actively engaged with the Rudder Club of Jacksonville as a race captain through his community. The established club was founded in 1946 and serves as a member-run sailing and yacht club for individuals of all ages.
Before college, Dr. Hamilton lived in East Asia for six years. He then studied the Japanese economy, focusing on population and fertility changes. Many years later, he started studying the Chinese economy. In preparation for his career, he achieved a Bachelor of Arts in economics from the prestigious Yale University in 1976 and a Doctor of Philosophy in economics from Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1981. He remains active in his professional community as a member of the American Economic Association and as a member and past president of the Southern Economic Association (SEA). The SEA recognized Dr. Hamilton in 2023 with an Outstanding Service Award.
