During the early stages of her career, she was named the Pro Bono Attorney of the Year at Vinson & Elkins, where she was an associate in the white collar defense practice group. Likewise, Ms. Skelton honed her expertise in law as an appellate attorney with the U.S. Department of Justice, where she was hired through the Attorney General's Honors Program, which is highly selective and selects only top-tier law school graduates.
An expert in her field, Ms. Skelton earned a Bachelor of Arts in history and economics from Duke University and a JD from William and Mary Law School, Order of the Coif. She is admitted to practice in Maryland, Virginia, and the District of Columbia, as well as numerous federal appellate courts. Although her career has been filled with highlights, she takes the most pride in emerging victorious after a mandamus case in the District of Columbia, which involved complex legal issues at the Guantanamo Bay detention camp.
