In addition to advising clients on all aspects of tax attribute utilization to offset income, she specializes in consolidated return issues and federal corporate income tax consequences for various transactions.
Initially working for Coopers & Lybrand LLP after law school in 1994, Ms. Ritz concentrated on tax matters for high-profile individual clients, and subsequently became assigned to the firm's national tax office upon earning a certified public accountant license, working on mergers and acquisitions from a tax perspective. When Coopers & Lybrand LLP merged with PricewaterhouseCoopers in 1998, Ms. Ritz joined EY to concentrate on cross-border mergers and acquisitions. Based in the UK, EY is notably considered one of the Big Four accounting firms, serving clients globally in various tax and financial matters.
In 2001, Ms. Ritz pivoted her practice to consolidated returns and tax attribute utilization. In 2008, she became the leader of EY's Section 382 practice. Eager to help mold the next generation, Ms. Ritz is adamant about the importance of training future professionals and maintaining cutting-edge practices, namely exploring the potential of artificial intelligence and how it can be incorporated into their daily processes.
To prepare for her career, Ms. Ritz earned a Bachelor of Science in accounting and business law from The Pennsylvania State University in 1991, followed by a Doctor of Jurisprudence and Master of Laws from Georgetown University in 1994 and 1998, respectively. Moreover, Ms. Ritz received credentials as a certified public accountant in Maryland, California, and the District of Columbia and has been admitted to practice law in Maryland and the District of Columbia.
While pursuing her education in accounting, Ms. Ritz was keen on practicing business law. She also developed an interest in anti-trust and was fortunate to study under the tutelage of some of the most renowned names in the field. As part of her continued professional commitments, Ms. Ritz is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Maryland State Bar Association, and the D.C. Bar Association.
