Extensive academic training has proven key to Dr. Cioffi's advancement and includes a Bachelor of Science in chemistry from Saint Louis University, where he graduated summa cum laude in 2011; he also holds a Ph.D. in biochemistry from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, which he earned in 2017. Dr. Cioffi subsequently completed postdoctoral research at the University of California, Berkeley, between 2017 and 2019, where he worked closely with Professor Daniel Nomura on the use of chemoproteomic-enabled covalent ligand approaches to identify new druggable hotspots for cancer therapy.
Dr. Cioffi is a prolific researcher, and his significant contributions to the scholarly literature are the culmination of his and his cohorts' dedicated investigations. Select articles include "Our Path to Less Toxic Amphotericins," published in SynLett in 2015, "Restored Iron Transport by a Small Molecule Promotes Absorption and Hemoglobinization in Animals" for the prestigious journal Science in 2017, and "Small-Molecule Ion Channels Increase Host Defences in Cystic Fibrosis Airway Epithelia," accepted for publication by Nature Journal in 2019. More recently, Dr. Cioffi submitted "Discovery of a Functional Covalent Ligand Targeting an Intrinsically Disordered Cysteine within MYC," which Cell Chemical Biology disseminated in 2020.
Hard work and productive collaboration are the drivers behind Dr. Cioffi's success thus far, and he is humbled to have partnered with intelligent, diligent individuals from diverse backgrounds.
