She also provides care to outpatients with endocrine disorders and diabetes in the office. Alongside her clinical responsibilities, she parlays her considerable expertise to students at Harvard Medical School in the clinical and classroom settings. Similarly, Dr. Lathief is a frequent lecturer at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and participates in the Harvard/MIT combined program.
During the early stages of her career, Dr Lathief gained valuable expertise as a clinician with the Miriam Hospital, Diabetes and Endocrinology Associates and Dartmouth Hitchcock. As an educator she has devoted herself to students at Harvard Medical School, Brown University and Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth. An expert in her field, she earned a dual Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from Kasturba Medical College before completing a residency in Internal Medicine at Yale New Haven Hospital and a fellowship in Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism at Dartmouth Hitchcock. In the ensuing years, Dr. Lathief became board-certified through the American Board of Internal Medicine.
Driven to remain abreast of changes in the field, Dr Lathief is affiliated with the American College of Physicians, the American Medical Association, the Endocrine Society and the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists. Due to her vast breadth of knowledge, she has contributed to several articles including " Approach to Diabetes Management in Patients with Cardiovascular Disease," "Emerging Concepts: Role of Vitamin D Deficiency in the Pathogenesis of PCOS" and "Advances and Practical Use of the Molecular Markers for Thyroid Cancer," which was featured within Advances in Cellular and Molecular Otolaryngology. Likewise, Dr. Lathief has been invited to speak on topics of thyroid, diabetes, obesity and adrenal disorders at Mount Auburn Hospital, MIT Medical and The Miriam Hospital. Alongside her co-author she also presented a case to the National American College of Physicians regarding the rare side effect of thyroiditis in a patient who received the Pfizer Coronavirus vaccine.
For her outstanding work in the medical field, Dr. Lathief has been honored several times, earning a First Prize Award from the American College of Physicians and Certificates of Recognition from the Warren Alpert Medical School. She was elected Fellow of the American College of Physicians (FACP) in 2020, and in January 2024 she was honored with the distinction of Fellow of the American Association of Clinical Endocrinology (FACE). While her career has been filled with highlights, she takes the most pride in publishing several articles and establishing a stellar reputation as an educator and clinician before reaching 40. Though hard work and dedication have brought her far in her career, she credits her success to the support of her family, specifically her parents, who instilled in her a strong work ethic and appreciation for education. In the coming years, Dr. Lathief intends to enhance her practice, and advance her research. Ultimately Dr. Lathief would like to augment her experience as a clinician, continue working with medical students and residents as an educator and advance delivery of patient care through her research.
