Sabrina Buchanan founded Base Designs in Troy, Michigan in 2020. She specializes in providing unparalleled interior design services for clients in both residential and commercial domains. Buchanan prides herself on creating original designs that set her apart from others in the industry. Buchanan was inspired early on by her father, a leading commercial retail developer. She credits her expertise in spacial planning and conceptual visualization to working alongside him as a young entrepreneur. In addition to her continued work for her father, Buchanan collaborates with her husband in his commercial real estate business. Today, she serves as the lead designer for nearly all of their holdings.
Among her most notable accomplishments is the design of an innovative concept for The Tallulah Group, a Michigan-based restauranteur. Buchanan spearheaded the transformation of the 10,000 square foot space in Birmingham, MI to launch ZANA, which opened in October 2022. Buchanan configured the space to feature several dining areas and accommodate 330 patrons. The restaurant showcases a myriad of unique elements including; custom hand-blown glass lighting from the Czech Republic, an all glass lit bar, commissioned artwork, mosaic marble flooring, and an exquisite private dining room. The project's distinct design led to features amongst several publications and received First Place at the 2023 Detroit Design Awards for Best Restaurant and Bar Design.
As Buchanan grows her business, she plans to acquire a dedicated building to house a design studio with retail staging space. Her business model will incorporate exclusive partnerships with builders focusing on all aspects of selections and home staging. Homebuyers can opt to purchase Buchanan's bespoke designs along with their home.
Outside of Base Designs, Buchanan devotes her energy to her three children and her community. She participates in and chairs fundraising events and supports several charities. Buchanan marries her professional passion in the community by procuring furniture and home goods to families in need.
Buchanan earned a bachelor's degree in Communications from Michigan State University. In addition to the coveted Detroit Design Award, she has been featured in Hour Detroit Magazine, SEEN Magazine, Detroit Design Magazine, and DBusiness. Buchanan hopes to experience continued recognition for pending projects in upcoming awards and competitions.
