Mr. Mason utilizes his robust energy trading and origination, analytical skills, financial risk management expertise, and process improvement knowledge to deliver innovative and sustainable energy projects that positively impact the environment.
That same year, Mr. Mason joined Wabash Valley Resources, which specializes in the development of clean hydrogen and ammonia through the use of carbon capture and sequestration (CCS). As the managing director of strategic development, Mr. Mason is responsible for establishing local and international markets for low/zero carbon ammonia, which is recognized as the lowest-cost hydrogen carrier.
Mr. Mason formerly spent three years as the global head of energy supply and trading at Nikola Motor Company in Phoenix from 2020 to 2023, where he led the formation of its energy division. He recruited approximately 50 individuals from various diverse backgrounds to support company goals. From 2006 to 2020, Mr. Mason was employed by BP p.l.c., where he mitigated hundreds of millions in credit losses during the 2007 credit crisis, and led the effort to avoid collateral calls that would have resulted in bankruptcy during the Macondo Well leak incident. Erik then spent time as business manager for the North American Gas and Power trading team and led development of BP's largest LNG export business at Freeport, leading to his final role as managing director of structured projects in Chicago.
During an earlier stage of his career, he garnered experience in Canadian Banking. In the nonprofit sector, Mr. Mason excelled as the founding chair of the Clean Hydrogen Future Coalition, a nonprofit organization that advocates for adopting hydrogen as a clean and versatile energy carrier, from 2021 to 2023. Through his community, Mr. Mason has been a dedicated member working in a number of volunteer positions mostly with the youth of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints since 1999.
Mr. Mason holds a bachelor's degree in international business since 2000. He also received credentials to hold the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation. Throughout his career, he has been regularly recognized as an exemplary performer and for his innovations and contributions by his former employers.
