After earning an associate degree in drafting and design technology from the Community College of Allegheny County in 1998, Mr. Laird discovered a company was hiring an entry-level CAD technician. Upon being acquired, he dove into the field headfirst as a CAD operator for Crouse and Company. Subsequently, he joined WEC Engineers, SAI Consulting Engineers, Inc., and URS Corporation where he progressed his career as a Design Engineer all while he furthered his education, earning a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Point Park University in 2012 and a Project Management Professional Certification from Augusta University in 2018. With CDR Maguire, Inc. Mr. Laird had the opportunity to work alongside the engineering team at the Allegheny County Department of Public Works as a Federal Program Manager. He worked closely with the Bridge Division who successfully delivered bridge construction and rehabilitation projects to the area, such as The Sister Bridges (6th Street Bridge, 7th Street Bridge, and 9th Street Bridge), South Tenth Street Bridge, Fleming Park Bridge, and Dooker's Hollow Bridge, to name some of the more notable projects.
A seasoned client engagement manager with a proven track record of success in establishing leads and assessing new markets, he honed his skills in civil engineering, project management, and business development. Over the years, Mr. Laird gained valuable expertise with such companies as Hill International and Michael Baker International. Drawing on years of professional experience, he excels as a senior client engagement manager for GAI Consultants, Inc. In this role Mr. Laird has routine collaboration with operations staff to identify common clients and strategies to advance the plan objectives, as well as spearheading business development initiatives. He oversees and manages the overall sales process for the Western Pennsylvania offices, including identifying opportunities and administration of the sales funnel for project pursuits, along with guiding the region's strategic direction.
Driven to remain abreast of changes in the field, Mr. Laird aligns himself with the Construction Management Association of America (CMAA), multiple chapters of the American Society of Highway Engineers (ASHE), the Southwestern Pennsylvania Engineering Outreach (SPEO), the Engineers Society of Western Pennsylvania (ESWP), the March of Dimes Transportation Building & Construction Executive Leadership Team, American Council of Engineering Companies of Pennsylvania (ACEC/PA), Women's Transportation Seminar (WTS), the Construction Legislative Council of Western Pennsylvania (CLC), and the Society of Marketing Professionals (SMPS).
For his professional achievements, he won the 2019 President's Award, the 2023 President's Gavel, and is the 2024 Past President of the Pittsburgh chapter of the American Society of Highway Engineers, along with being the 2019 Past Chairperson of the Construction Legislative Council of Western Pennsylvania. While his career has been filled with highlights, he takes the most pride in achieving a $50 million sales goal with his previous employer.
