During an earlier stage of his career, Dr. Stoneham was an engineering fellow at Endwave Corporation from 1993 to 2009, a development manager at Pacific Monolithics between 1989 and 1993, a semiconductor research and development manager at Microwave Technology Incorporated from 1984 to 1989, and a project manager at Hewlett Packard between 1971 and 1984. Throughout his career, he has made significant contributions to semiconductor technology. Among various accomplishments, during his tenure at Hewlett Packard, Dr. Stoneham led the development of the first ion implantation process to be used in the commercial production of gallium arsenide microwave semiconductor devices, and he created a semiconductor test system that inspired the company's development of its successful semiconductor parameter analyzer products. While employed by Endwave Corporation, he also pioneered a flip-chip method for integrating gallium arsenide semiconductor devices into thin-film circuits. The company used the process to manufacture millimeter-wave subsystems used in communications infrastructure. Dr. Stoneham has notably secured over two dozen U.S. patents.
Dr. Stoneham honorably served his country in the U.S. Army for two years. He and his wife contribute to a Buddhist temple and several charitable organizations among other civic activities.
Dr. Stoneham graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in physics from the University of California at Berkeley in 1968 and a Doctor of Philosophy in applied physics from Stanford University in 1975. During his studies, he was elected into Phi Beta Kappa. Professionally, Dr. Stoneham is a member of Sigma Xi and a senior member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers. He was recognized with a Best Presentation Award at an international consortium in light of his success.
